Celebrate Irish Fest at the North Shore Library’s

Tuesday Movie Fest with the film Ondine.

August 21^st at 6 p.m.

 

Ondine is the story of Syracuse, a simple fisherman who catches a beautiful and mysterious woman in his trawler nets. The woman seems to be dead, but then she come alive before Syracuse's eyes, and he thinks he may be seeing things. However, with the help of his irrepressible daughter, Annie, he comes to believe that the fantastical might be possible and the woman (Ondine) might be a myth come true. Ondine and Syracuse fall passionately in love, but just as we think the fairytale might go on forever, the real world intercedes.

The two then journey on to Cape Town to begin rehearsals for Elvis's wedding to the beautiful Ayanda. But things don't always go according to plan. An appealing, feel-good movie about love, commitment, intimacy and friendship and the host of maddening obstacles that can get in the way of a happy ending.

Celebrate German Fest with the film Phantom Pain.

 

This piercing drama from Germany stars Til Schweiger as a slacker with an intense enthusiasm for cycling whose life is drastically changed after a tragic auto accident results in the loss of a leg. Distraught, he must somehow find a way to rebuild his life with the help of his close friend, his daughter, and a new woman. Stipe Erceq, Jana Pallaske, and Luna Schweiger (Til's daughter) co-star in this film inspired by the true story of Canadian cyclist Stephen Sumner.

Tuesday Movie Fest continues at the North Shore Library
 with the Italian film Days and Clouds
 July 24th at 6 pm.

Well-to-do, sophisticated couple, Elsa and Michele, have a 20 year - old daughter, Alice, and enough money  for Elsa to leave her job and fulfill an old dream of studying art history. After she graduates however, their lives change. Michele confesses he hasn't worked in two months and was fired by the company he founded years ago. Elsa overcomes her initial shock by pouring extra energy into facing the crisis, while Michele, exhausted by an unsuccessful job hunt, lets himself go, alternating between vivacity and apathy. The growing distance between them eventually leads to a break-up. Only when they part will they ralize that they risk losing their most precious possession: the love that binds them.
