What to Expect...

Library programs enhance early literacy skills by giving your child the opportunity to hear and learn new words through repetition and context. Story time helps children build and sustain language capabilities.
Each story time is designed for a particular age group. Please be respectful of the age limits as they are there to give everyone the best story time experience.
Being a respectful, active member of an audience is a learned skill. Children learn how to focus on the presenter, how to interact as an audience member, and how to sit and listen as part of an audience.
Children enjoy imitating, and often imitate their caregivers. Shy children may wish  to play along, but if they see mommy, grandpa, or nanny sitting in the back, they may lack the security to try. Caregivers who sing, play, and follow along demonstrate how to have the most meaningful and enjoyable experience possible.
Alternatively, caregivers who talk, text, or read during story time or creative programming send the message to their children that these behaviors are acceptable. These activities can be disruptive to the entire program, making it difficult for children to listen, focus, play along, and transition into school group settings.
Everybody has "off" days, so if your child is not enjoying him/herself, please feel free to quietly exit the session.
